A Wrap on JV Wildcat Basketball...

Mid-February Roen had his very last JV basketball game. He ended up being very happy with his decision to join the team and has plans to play again next year. Even though it did add a dose of busy to our schedule, I loved getting to see my boy back out on the court!

They may not have had the most winning season, but they sure did have fun!

JV Wildcat Basketball...

Well, we were a little late to the game with basketball this year!

Roen was certain he did not want to play because it would cut into his golf practice. However, during Christmas Break, he mentioned that he really regretted not playing. I encouraged him to talk to his cocah when they went back to school instead of just waiting until next year. What started off as "No, it's already too far into the season" ended up being "we have two hurt and one failing, would you still be willing to join the team?".

So, here we are! Just in time for district and he is loving it. Their team isn't great and have lost most of their games, but he isn't regretting jumping back in, and I love getting to see him out on the court again!

So far, two loses, one win, and Miss Brynlee has even come to cheer him on!

And that last picture.... I sure do love my little shorty pants!!

Spring League Basektball...

Roen joined the Spring League one last time before he officially hangs up his basketball shoes. They only won 2 of their 6 games, but goodness, it was so good for my mama heart to see Roen play ball with his buddies one last time.

A Hard Last...

Early February brought Roen's very last middle school basketball game, and it had me toiling in all my emotions. He is pretty sure he doesn't want to play next year, because it would interfere pretty substantially with his golf practice. There is zero part of me that feels ready close the chapter on watching Roen play ball.

It also makes me realize how close he is to wrapping up middle school all together and it is all going just a little too fast!

The played against Ponder and got beat terribly. Roen didn't make a single basket and it was an all around ugly game on our part, BUT, those boys smiled and made it a point to have a good time out there. This little group has been playing together for years and I think everyone was a little sad knowing that this was the last time.

If you can't tell, watching my little caboose grow up, is proving to be way harder than it has ever been with Remi! Those little siblings aren't ever supposed grow up, are they? I've got three more months of middle school and I'm gonna love every minute, take every picture and soak up everything I can!

Robotics & Basketball...

Remi's 4th robotics meet fell on the same day as Roen's basketball tournament, so, we divided and conquered!

Poor Roen, was just coming off of a three day, bed-ridden, flu stint and Micah said you could definitely tell. They ended up losing all three of their games and I don't think anyone on the team would say it was fun!

Remi's robotics team did the best they have done all year, winning 4 of their 6 matches! This brought them up three places in the league ranking and we were all so proud at how well they did! However, this was the meet where they could have punched their ticket to the next round, and they just couldn't make up that much ground from their earlier meets.

Either way, it was a Saturday filled with watching our boys do what they love and for me, that's really what it's about!

Basketball Tournament...

Roen and his 8th grade basketball team just finished up the annual area middle school basketball tournament. They lost game one, putting them into the consolation bracket, but ended up winning their next two games. They came home as the consolation bracket champs and I'd say considering how much they have struggled this season, everyone was happy with this outcome!

Middle School Basketball...

Basketball continues and we have yet to win a single game. In fact, we have lost a lot of our games by a landslide. It isn't pretty and it has been pretty discouraging to the boys. This is a group that has played together for years and yet, they are struggling to play as a team like Iv'e never seen. It's easy to blame it on coaching, but really, it's more than that and I hate it. Roen continues to give the game everything he has, but at the end of the day, it's a team effort.

I am not sure he will even play next year, due to golf, so despite these final scores, I am doing my very best to soak up watching him on the court. The best part of these last 3 games is Anne being there for 2 of them!

I'm still rooting for these boys and as always, there in nowhere I'd rather be than in the stands embracing my inner cheerleader!

Basketball Pics '24...

I think it's safe to say, this is the year, that this group of boys is feeling pretty big, being 8th graders and all! I ALWAYS buy the pictures... and the magnet, and the digitals and the group photos! I just can't help myself! Anyways, now you get to enjoy *wink wink*

8th Grade Basketball, Red River

Roen had his second game of the season right before Thanksgiving break, and though they did not win, they did have a much better game! Micah was out of town, so he was pretty sad to miss his game again. Roen was pretty excited that Bennett came to watch and was happy that I was able to snag so many pictures!

8th Grade Basketball, Pilot Point

Well, the boys had their first game, played Pilot Point and got killed... 16-51!

Good news, Roen made A Team and is a starter! He loves basketball and truly gives it all out there. You all know how much I love watching him play, so win or lose, I'm loving every minute! Micah was with Remi, playing captain for his fishing tournament, so he was sad he didn't get to be there, but at least he didn't miss a nail-bitter!

Spring League...

Well, Spring League Basketball has officially come to an end. The countdown is on and the end of the school year is going by in a blink!

We spent our last Thursday night of ball, winning all three of our games! Remi's team finally snagged a win and Roen's team played back to back, looking pretty darn good! Roen had his two best games of the spring and was a sweaty, happy boy! As happy as I am to have our Thursday evenings back, I can't say that it wasn't a blast!

Middle School Basektball...

Just as quick as it began, basketball season has come to an end.

This ending has been a bit hard for this mamma because it was Remi's very last year to play middle school ball. Next year, he will be trying out for the high school freshman team and that is just a hard pill to swallow.

Anne drove all the way to our neck of the woods just to come to the boy's last games, and that meant the world to us. All those who have gotten out, sat in the stands and supported the boys, I want to say THANK YOU.  As the boys have gotten older, I have realized, the gift of showing up is a gift far too precious to take for granted! You know that saying about the gift of time, well, it's pretty hard to beat!

Remi's 8th grade season had its ups and downs for sure. Some games ended with all smiles and some games ended with frustration. I truly do think this is all a part of what a child gets from playing team sports- the ups and downs, the humility and then the time to shine, rooting for your team even when you're not getting playing time.... those are some important lessons! I am so proud of Remi. He isn't the star of the team or the most aggressive player, but he is smart as a whip and that is what he brings to the court. He watched his little brother play A Team ball all season, being a dominant player and leader on his team and all the while, Remi sat, cheered and supported Roen all season long. For me, this is one of the MOST important lessons from it all.... knowing how to be happy for others even when they have something you don't. Well done, Remi! Your humble spirit and desire to always remain a respectful athlete shine bright!

Roen's first season of school basketball was pretty darn great! That boy can handle the ball, controls the court and had many games where he played the entire time. He pushes until he is sweating buckets, and then he pushes some more. He lives for being active, competing and thrives on being better and doing better. If you set a standard for that boy, well, he will go until he meets it. Roen is 100% in his element when he is playing sports and if I had to describe his 7th grade season, well, I'd say he had the time of his life!

*Can you spot high school Micah in his old state runner-up pic? Roen's team played a tournament at his old high school and we always love spotting him in this picture!
