Roen's Last Track Meet...

Last Monday, was Roen's very last track meet. Seeing as he won't be doing track next year, this wrapped up track for us all together! These lasts get me just a little sentimental!

He ran:

400m

200m

4x400 relay

He really didn't do amazing in any of them, but I truly love watching this boy run! I'm gonna miss this, I think, because in a different world, where golf didn't fall in the same season, I think he could be quite the little track star! But, kuddos to him for showing up, doing his best and always having such an awesome attitude!

8th Grade Track, Bells...

At the beginning of March, Roen had his first track meet of the season! He missed the first meet due to being sick, so he will only get to run in 3 this year. He doens't love track, but I sure do love watching that boy run! His best and favorite race is the 200m, which was my best race too!

And at the very end, you can see how much Roen has changed since 7th grade!! These babies don't keep!

Track Season 2024...

Out of the 5 middle school meets, Remi only got to do pole vault 2 times. There were many more vaulters this year and so the first two meets gave everyone a chance to practice before deciding on who made the cut for our district meet. Remi never could pick back up where he left off last year, and though it was very frustrating for him, he still enjoyed his season. 

They had Roen try out several races, but in the last three meets they put him in the 200m relay and 400m relay. He would have loved to have gotten the opportunity to try triple jump and the 100m, but he never got the chance. I think he felt a bit of frustration over this, as the entire season felt a bit unorganized, but hopefully next year, he can have a stab at a few more events. As with most things, Roen absolutely loved the social aspect of this sport! Every time I looked down at their camp, he was right in the thick of it, laughing, dog piling and of course, snacking!

Next year, Remi will be in high school, and the fact that his middle school track days have come to an end is hard to believe!

Bells Track Meet...

This track meet was pretty short! Both of Roen's relays got canceled due to kids being put into ISS (stinks for the other members of the relay) and Remi sat out of pole vault so that the other pole vaulters could have the chance to participate in a meet.

All this to say, we headed over to Bells to watch Roen run the 200 M. He did much better this time and was actually in 1st place until the last 50 yards or so. He needs to work on that stamina, but I'll always be proud every improvement I see! He came in 4th- it was a pretty close race!

Track Season...

The boys had their first track meet of the year and it was such an exciting day! Besides me loving track, it was the most perfect sunshiny weather! This meet, Remi got to just do pole vault (which he was so happy about) and Roen got to try his hand at sprinting. Because he missed several days while at Nationals, he missed field events but is hopeful he will get to do triple jump at some point. Neither boy really had a great showing, but I had so much fun watching them- it brings back so many memories of my own track days. 

Remi didn't make it past the first round and he was so disappointed. But honestly, this is just the way it goes sometimes. They actually had a good amount of boys go out for pole vaulting this year, and I'm pretty sure they will all be taking turns competing at the meets. 

Roen got to run all the races I used to run! Oh, the excitement it gives me watching them all lineup in the blocks! Both his relays got last and bless his heart, he got last in his 200M. But he has the most beautiful little stride and I truly think he loved his first taste of track & field!

You know me, more than anything, I just love watching the boys work hard at something, no matter the final result! They gotta know how to lose with dignity and have the 'want' to work harder and do better next time. And a huge shoutout to Pops who stayed to watch all the boy's events... all 6 hours!

 Track Meet #3

Remi has pretty much secured his place in pole vault and 110H, but this track meet, they added the 300H. He was not happy about this at all and was extremely nervous. I was also nervous because I knew this would be a very tough race! My goal for this meet was for him to not fall doing his hurdles. I'm happy to report that not only did he not fall on either race, but he didn't get last on the 110H. He did get last on the 300H, but he made it! He said he thought he might collapse at the end, it was so hard! But I'm all about conquering the hard! He didn't make it through the first round of pole vault, so he was pretty bummed about that.

Track Meet #4

This time, they went back to just pole vaulting and 110H. He doesn't love the hurdles, but was ecstatic that he wouldn't be doing the 300H. In pole vault, he made it through the first round, clearing 6'. He tied for 5th and was very happy about this. Again on the hurdles, he didn't fall and didn't get last, so I'm celebrating these baby steps of improvements!

Track Meet #5

Remi finished his track season back in pole vault and the 110 H. We were dealing with weather and so in order to get all events done, they only let jumping events have two attempts. This took away an attempt for Remi at each height. He did get through to the second round but was pretty frustrated that he didn't clear  6 ft, since he had cleared 6'6" in practice that morning. He ended up in last in hurdles again, but I was just thankful that he didn't fall! 

I think next year, Remi would love to just do pole vault- the hurdles were very hard for him! BUT, he showed up and did them every-time he was put in that event. I think this track season he proved to himself, that he can do hard things! I was proud of his attitude over being put in events that pushed him and I love that in trying new things, he found something he loves!

7th Grade Track...

Track season has started and Remi has finished up two meets! I always loved track and I have been so excited for his first meets to get here!

Remi is quite an amazing little guy, but if I'm being honest, running is not his favorite thing to do. Micah and I have been anxiously waiting to see what races they would put Remi in. 

Meet #1:

They put Remi in the 400 and 800. These were very tough races for Remi as you are basically sprinting longer distances. He isn't quite fast enough to be a sprinter and has very little stamina, so even though he came 2nd to last in both of these races, I was happy he finished!

Meet #2:

This time, they put Remi in the 110 hurdles and pole vault. He has been going to early morning pole vaulting with his coach and is absolutely loving it! He placed 5th in pole vault- I think this might be his niche. He was told one day before the meet he would be doing hurdles and was very nervous about this event. In fact, the first time he ever ran the full race, was at the meet. He ending up falling over the last hurdle and came in last- he said jumping and running was so hard. 

I'm not sure where they will put him next, but I'm hopeful they will let him stick with a race and work on improving his individual time, even if he never places. Micah and I are both hoping that track will help Remi learn to push himself to conquer hard and new things. He may never be our track star, but if you were to ask him how he likes it so far, he would tell you he loves it, and I love that he is finding joy in this even if he isn't the very best!

And of course, little brother is always more than happy tagging along- give him a few concession stand hot dogs and he is the happiest boy in the world ! Next year, they will both be competing at these meets, and that will double the fun!

While We Were Away....

Adult trips can't happen without family willing to take on your children (and a new puppy) for days at a time! This is no small feat.... trust me, I know!

While we were away soaking up the mountain air, Remi and Roen headed west to spend 10 whole days with Anne and the crew! The boys made up some serious cousin time that the school year won't allow,  built elaborate forts, went swimming, played Wahoo (of course), played tennis, went to church and no doubt, got spoiled rotten!

They also got to spend the week participating in VBS in the mornings and went to Wall Track Camp in the evenings! On the last day of track camp, they host a track meet for all the participants. Our school doesn't do anything like this, but I personally think it is awesome and the boys loved it! Remi and Roen were in the same group and so competed against each other- I always think a good bit of brother competition is good for them! They both placed and brought home ribbons:

Remi- 2nd in Shot Put, 3rd in Long Jump

Roen- 4th in Shot Put, 4th in Long Jump

Neither of them have had much practice in competitive running and I could definitely tell! They seemed to be near last in all the races I saw. They also introduced hurdles! I wish you could see Roen running hurdles, lol! Roen is our goofball who lives in LaLa Land often, so you won't be surprised that on several occasions, he ran right through a hurdle, dragging it down as he ran! I watched these videos over and over, just giggling! I love that the boys got to experience a whole new world of competing in something they have never done! It was also pretty cool when I spotted children of old classmates in pictures!

This was the most perfect way to kick off Summer Break!!
