Trap Shoot No. 2...

Mid-November, the boys had their 2nd trap shoot of the season. Last minute, Roen decided not to go because it was during basketball tryout week and he would not only miss early morning, but the entire day of school and athletics. So, we got him to school and off we went!

We were spoiled and Remi drove us the entire 2.5 hours there and halfway back! I kid you not, having another driver in the family is pretty darn fantastic! Now obviously the passenger has to be awake and alert, so I eventually had to take a backseat, because I can't stay awake in the car!

Remi shot what I am pretty sure is his all-time best, a 66. Now this isn't winning medals, but progress is progress and the boys truly love being apart of this! It's not often we get the boys one on one, and this was one of those special days where we had our biggest boy all to ourselves!

FWSSR Junior Sporting Clay Shoot...

This is our 3rd year in a row to do this shoot. It is always SUPER early in the morning with 1.5 hour drive, but once we get there, it so much fun! The boys move through 13 different stations where the clays are thrown and coming from all different directions- harder than trap but a lot more exciting. Plus, we get to end our morning with an all-time favorite, Joe T Garcia's!!

Here lately, Roen is shooting consistently better than Remi and though no words are said, I know it is fueling his fire! The boys enjoy shooting trap so much and if we had the time, they would love to put in way more practice! BUT... golf, lol! Regardless of scores, they have both made progress and are loving  the time they are able to put into this activity!

Remi: 55
Roen: 68

*Lets go ahead and mention that Roen's score qualified him for the afternoon finals.... we didn't think a 68 would do it, so we headed to lunch and the little booger missed out on winning money and competing in the finals...oopsie! If he would have shot a 68 again, he would have won $100, but don't fret, he forgave us!

And as always, I am going to throw in a little 3 year comparison at the end because I never can resist seeing how they have grown!

Trap Shooting...

The boys just finished up their first trap shoot of the school year! Some of Roen's very best friends shoot trap with him, so it is always a fun day of getting out of school with buddies for him. There aren't many in Remi's age group, but Remi is typically more than happy to hang with the younger boys! Roen just got a new shotgun for Christmas, so he was especially looking forward to his first competitive shoot with it!

This is a L-O-N-G day.... Ben Wheeler is quite the drive and safety meetings are almost always super early in the morning, and then there is the waiting because, rarely are they running on time. But, this season of life is about being with the boys no matter the place or activity and a long day as a family is a day we get to be together! I'll take that over us all being in different directions any day!

I'd say for first go of the fall, they did pretty good and fun was had by all!

Remi: 47

Roen: 61

FFA Banquet...

This was the first year the boys have attended the FFA Banquet. They recognize all the trap shooters and though neither boy was a top shooter of the year, this is an extracurricular that they love!

I think Roen really likes missing school with friends the most, and Remi really just likes shooting- he actually hates that he has to miss school for the shoots! But to each their own, I'm just along for the ride!

San Antonio Trap Shoot...

This past weekend, Remi and I headed down to San Antonio for the annual Junior Shoot Out. This was our first time to do this shoot and Remi was pretty pumped he was getting to participate. It just happens to fall on the exact same weekend as the Winter Nationals Golf Tournament- Remi getting to shoot was the silver lining of not qualifying for Winter Nationals this year.

The other, silver lining was that we got to have a weekend with Cici & Kim! Mom also hit the road and met us in San Antonio, so it was a whole bunch of spoiling for Remi! He even got him a sushi dinner out of the deal!

Friday was absolutely perfection weather-wise, which made checking in and practicing wonderful! Saturday brought in the cold and wind... it was downright miserable! But we bundled, we had fun and we survived! Remi only shot 49 of 100, so it definitely wasn't his best turnout, but I think we were just all happy to be in the warm car when it was said and done! More than anything, it was wonderful getting to sneak in a visit with family in the middle of February!

Pewitt Trap Shoot...

This shoot was at the same location as last, just hosted by a different school. The boys are continuing to improve and loving every minute! This was Remi's best shoot yet and Roen improved from last shoot as well. They are both wanting to take this sport to the next level, so it's looking like we will be adding shooting lessons to our weekly lineup!

Remi: 58

Roen: 40

Ft Worth Sporting Clay Shoot...

This was our 2nd year to do this shoot in Ft Worth. Sporting clays is a lot different than trap shooting and more difficult. However, it is also a lot of fun! We had a pretty chilly morning, and with it being on a Saturday, there were only a handful of kiddos from our school that participated.

The boys actually tied each other in this shoot with a 49. You can tell by the smiles on their face, that they just love being a part of this! Being in Ft Worth always means a trip to Joe T Garcias for our crew, so that made our early, cold morning more than worth it!

Sims Trap Shoot...

Fall trap shooting has started back up, and the boys are loving it! It does typically mean missing an entire day of school for travel, but depending on who you ask, that is either a good thing or a bad thing.

For Roen, it is the best thing in the world! For Remi, well, he truly hates missing school. But, the fact that he does it willingly, just goes to show how much he loves it!

Roen has so many of his good friends doing this with him, so for him this is also a social event! Remi only has a few buddies doing this and due to football, they don't always get to participate. But, lets be honest, being social is not what it's about for him.

Remi is almost always a better shot than Roen. They are very competitive with each other when shooting- even more so than with golf. In this particular round, Remi only beat Roen by one. Neither were real happy with their score, but, with it being their first shoot of the school year, I felt it was a good place to start.
