Turkey Hunting 2020...

Two Thursdays ago, I let the boys skip a day of school to take an early morning trip out to Illinois Bend.

My boys are the 4th generation to hunt this family land and there is not a single thing about that that isn't special to me. I love that Micah grew up hunting this land and now I get to watch him take our boys out, teaching them the very things Pops taught him.

Before we had kids, Micah would take me, and so I know first hand that feeling you get, being out in the middle of nowhere, not a soul in sight, soaking in every sound of nature, watching for every little movement. It is a feeling that is very hard to explain, but being out like that makes you feel so small, but so full of the nature at the same time. Bottom line, it is an absolute blast and I love the excitement of an early morning, helping the boys throw on camo, them grabbing gear, them letting me snap one quick picture before the three of them load up and head out on the very best kind of adventure there is!

They were to be home around noon and when I got a call around 10:30, I knew it was probably good news because there is no way they would head home before they had to!

Micah said they weren't having any luck at all. As time ticked by, they heard some turkey pretty far out, so they headed in that direction, and then started calling them in. Roen wanted Remi to take the first shot, so Remi was ready with his gun, Micah right behind him, to shoot the second turkey. He kept waiting for him to take a shot and had just about given up when Remi pulled the trigger and killed both turkeys with that one shot!

Ya'll there is no excitement like the excitement of a successful hunt. I could hear it in their voices on the phone, I can see it in the pictures Micah took and when I ran out to meet them upon their arrival home, I could see it in their faces!

This is awesome on so many levels!! Tell ole dead eye congratulations. They are all beaming. I think it’s really cool that Roen was just as excited as Remi was about the double kill. (Or at least in the pictures). Such a great adventure...making so many wonderful memories ❤️ Now for the fried turkey nuggets 😋. Enjoy!!
Love y’all....stay healthy 😘
