Destin Day 1...

Our first day in Destin was a full on beach day! Getting to the beach was a little bit of a trek, so getting there and staying seemed to be the easiest plan to avoid having to lug bags, goggles and nets back and forth.

Besides splashing around in the waves, we planned some surf lessons for the crew. Everyone but the moms decided to participate and I think it was a favorite for sure.

It's worth noting, that the waves in Destin are pretty rough. Compared to the calm waters of the Caribbean where we can snorkel our days away, the waves made snorkeling and shell hunting near impossible. However, this also made some pretty perfect waters for body surfing and boogie boarding!

On our way down to the beach, the boys caught their first two lizards of the trip! Theses little brown tree lizards reminded Remi of the Green Anole lizards they catch back home! They were super impressed that these tropical lizards have an orange dewlap under their necks!

We caught a few waves before walking down the beach to meet our surf instructors...

If you are ever in the Destin area and want a fun beach activity, hit up All Aboard Surf School! They started by fitting everyone to a surf board and then did a quick little lesson in the sand before hitting up the waves. It took quite a bit of strength to paddle through the waves back out to the deeper waters each time, so it proved to be a bit hard for some of the smaller kiddos. Remi was one of the group who picked up surfing pretty quick. He had great balance and was pretty proud that he was able to hop up on his board and ride the waves to shore! Such a fun experience!

After surfing the afternoon away, the kids cooled off with a snow cone and we headed back down to our resort's beach. We spent the rest of the afternoon catching waves, playing in the sand, drinking Shirley Temples and soaking up the sun!

Later that evening, we cleaned up and headed over to the harbor to explore and have dinner. Our first stop was watermelon and pineapple drinks for the whole crew! The kids loved walking around the harbor and checking out all the boats. The next thing on our list were henna tattoos- the kids had been anxiously awaiting this! Roen went with a turtle, Remi chose a lizard and I chose a little heart with Micah's nickname 'Bear' through it- it was cheesy perfection! For dinner, we walked over to Dewey Destin's, filled our bellies and ended a pretty perfect day!
