This weekend, the boys participated in their very first golf tournament. They both fell into the 8-10 age group and so got to compete in the same bracket. This made it very easy for Micah and I to be able to watch them both, especially since both days, they gave both boys the same tee times.
Saturday, they teed off bright and early at 8:30. Neither boy played their best rounds, but all in all, they had good attitudes and it was the most beautiful morning, making it a pretty wonderful day! Remi got his very first eagle- which was by far, the highlight of the day! Roen ended the day with 50 and Remi with 54.
Sunday morning, they teed off at 8:40. Both struggled on the green and over putted most of their holes, but ended up doing pretty good. Remi did better with a 49 and Roen came in with another 50.
This put Roen in 4th place with a 100 and Remi in 6th with a 103. Every single stroke counts in these tournaments and both boys left feeling proud of some of their shots, but also realizing their short game needs a lot of practice.
This weekend, I realized, out of all the sporting activities I have watched the boys play, golf is my absolute favorite. Micah and I get to be right there with them watching them handle the pressure of each hole, watching them take pride in their high moments, watching them sort through frustration and self-control in the rough patches and watching them encourage their competition. This is a game where it's every man for himself. A game where yelling, blaming a teammate, disagreeing with an ump or letting down your team are not components. It is a game of mental toughness, calculated decisions and learning the art of patience.
The boys played with some pretty great little golfers, but I was most impressed by how these 8, 9 and 10 year olds all composed themselves under pressure and were so very quick to pass out encouragement to their competitors!
Warming up...
Off they go on Saturday morning...
Remi had just gotten his first ever eagle
Finished up Day one with a 50 and 54
Sunday, Day Two...
Wearing their Sunday golf red
Final results: Remi 103, Roen 100
They got to play with one of their best buds
They also made a new golf buddy
I have been asked many times how Remi felt about getting beat by his little brother.
Golfing together has been such a bonding experience for my boys. Roen is never one to gloat- he was born a humble little guy and though Remi is fiercely competitive, he can tolerate a loss to his brother better than anyone else. I never, not once, heard any words of resentment or negativity from Remi towards his brother... I truly think Remi plays for himself and was proud that Roen got 4th. Their little relationship has many levels, but at the very core, they always have each other's back.

This is awesome! You got some wonderful pictures not only of a beautiful golf course and handsome golfers, but of God’s artwork! The boys had two great days of golf. As I have said, many times I’m sure, I wish I could have been good at golf. It is truly a sport for all ages. You sure dress them to a “tee”...no pun intended 😉. So glad y’all got to be right there with them. Pretty perfect in my books. Congratulations Roen! Congratulations Remi! Keep up the great work. Wishing you both lots of long drives and short putts!
Have a great week and learn lots! Love y’all bunches!
