A Great Start...

The Fall hustle and bustle has officially begun!

It's early morning breakfast, after school puppy snuggles, Friday night football, weekends with friends, and bedtime reading. I love a good routine and everyone seems to be settling in well. 

As of now, Remi is taking 6th grade head on and kicking it's booty. So far, he has had multiple tests each week and lots to keep track of. We have learned that sending me a text as soon as an assignment or test is announced is the best way for us to stay on the same page. He has 8 periods each day, so it is hard to remember what happens in the early periods! Technology has become our best friend! He is having to memorize large portions of states/countries, and I have found there are tons of YouTube videos that teach creative ways to memorize them. From there, I have found a pretty awesome geography app that he dowloaded on his phone- he can literally study on the way to school, in bed at bedtime, on the way to golf and it has help him be so successful with these tests. If I can integrate technology, Remi seems to nail it every time! His medication is still at the same does and still working great for him! He just got his reading level back and as of now, he is reading at a 4.7 grade level. This is a true miracle! At the beginning of last year, he was reading at a 2nd grade level and I wasn't sure we would ever get past that plateau. His last class of the day is TMSCA. This is a class for competitive math and science where he will choose different areas to compete in. Right now, he has his heart set on NumberSense and either Mathematics or Calculator. This kid's academic drive is something fierce and considering the obstacles he has to overcome to get there, it's nothing short of incredible.

5th Grade is a hard year and I knew is would take some adjusting for Roen just like it did Remi. Where Remi is academically driven, Roen is athletically driven. Roen is my boy who thrives on being active, moving, doing and competing in any sport you throw at him. He is my boy who can do 50+ pushups in one sitting, a 5 minute plank and struggles big time with having to sit still for any length of time. He has a constant energy about him that is both positively contagious but also tricky in a classroom setting. We are working on finding good solutions for this boy, because though he may not be driven in the classroom as much as he is on the field, he has an incredible little math brain that I want to make sure he utilizes. Roen is my child who makes school pretty easy in the sense that he doesn't stress about it at all. He does his best and leaves it right there! 

Both boys have opted to put tackle football on the back burner this year in order to take on golf full-time. They have lessons twice a week and tournaments almost every single weekend starting tomorrow. These boys are ready push themselves like never before and I am super excited to see where this season lands them!
