Winter Nationals, Day One...

Day one, had us teeing off a little before 9, Saturday morning, on the Champion course. Of the two courses he played, this was by far, the hardest.

Tournaments at this level have a certain buzz of energy that just oozes good golf. It's intense, it's competitive and it is so much fun to watch these talented juniors on the course! While Micah took him to warm up, Remi and I took a seat at Birdie's for oatmeal and Nutella pancakes!

He started off on a par 4 where he shot an 8. Yep, a quad! BUT, Roen is extremely good at his mental game, and even better at turning things around. And that he did! He played some amazing golf that whole day! At least until hole 17, where he shot a 10 on a par 3!!!!! Bless his heart, he rarely has blowup holes and he had two on this round. Even so, he ended up with an 85 for the round. These tournaments are the very best learning experiences and it's our hope that they will prepare him for future endeavors!

After he finished his round, we got to watch Pearson play his last handful of holes! From there, we found a patio, had Mexican food and margs with friends, and then let the boys have a little fun at the resort arcade until it was bedtime.

Despite the disappointment from being so very close to a top 10 ranking on the first day (if he hadn't of had those two blowup holes), it was a great day in sunny Florida, watching our boy do what he loves, with great friends!
