Dock Update...

Out retaining wall is coming along great! We started on July 13th, so it has been going for a little over a month now, and the retaining wall is almost complete. They will come in and fill the eroded seawall with dirt before capping the wall off. The wall is a heavy duty corrugated plastic that should last 20+ years.

Before they could get started on the retaining wall, they had to demo the front portions of the docks so that they could get to the actual wall under the front of the dock that attaches to our yard.

I was very interested to see how actual install would happen, and I have to say, it has been fun to watch! These guys show up to work in swimsuits everyday! First, they hammer long metal poles into the lake floor with the excavator. From there, they connect all the poles with long pieces of wood and finally, they screw the wall onto the wood planks. They have to bang every pole and piece of wall into the water with the excavator while one person stays in the water to hold it level. We have some pretty rocky areas, so when they are having to remove rocks from the ground, it can make for some pretty slow days.

In these first pictures, you can see that they have already removed our old, rotted wood retaining wall...

Day 3

This is Day 13, when they finally started putting up the wall. You can see here how much of our seawall had eroded...

Day 13

Day 29, they are coming along nicely and almost to the hallway mark of our waterfront...

Day 29

As of this morning, they have just a wee bit more of wall to install. I'm hoping they can finish it up today...

Day 37

It looks so pretty and clean from the water- next time we are on the boat, I will snap a picture! Once the retaining wall is finished up, they will move onto the docks!

This is great! I wondered how they would replace it and you captured it perfectly. I’d be out there watching too. Did you have a couple of tag alongs? I’m thinking one for sure. He probably had it figured out before they started. Can’t wait to see the view from the lake. Really cool. Have a great week Davenport family! Love y’all bunches!
