As you know, reading is struggle with both our boys. However, books are something that are very near and dear to my heart, so I do my very best to instill a love of books in both of my boys, despite the challenges they face with text. They may not pick up a book and read it the way a traditional 4th & 5th grader would, but I can tell you for certain, they both love books!
Each student is challenged to read a certain number of Bluebonnet books based on their grade. Bluebonnet books are 20 books chosen each year by teachers, students, parents and librarians for the state of Texas. These books range in genres, difficulty, grade level and are new publishes from US authors. Remi was challenged to read and pass 7 books, while Roen was challenged to 6 books. Students who met these goals were rewarded with an end of the year Bluebonnet Field Trip.
Our favorites this year were If I Built a School by Chris Van Dusen and The Bridge Home by Padma Venkatraman
3rd & 4th Grade spent their day at the skating rink rolling around with friends, eating pizza, playing games and loving every minute of a day off from school! 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Grades spent their day over at Hey Day! This venue has bowling, laser tag, zip lining and an arcade. I was pretty happy that I was able to meet up at both places to be a part of all the fun having!
