Bye-Bye Fred...

After we got back from the beach, Roen made the hard decision to let his turtle go. We have had many babies added to his tank, but I Love Turtles Fred Davenport has always been in his tank. This ornery guy loved to hiss, bite and bully his tankmates, but Roen loved him dearly. However, this turtle kept growing and growing and growing- so much so, that he got too big for his 30 gallon tank. I told Roen that he really didn't have room to swim around anymore and that we needed to think about letting him go.

The day Roen made the decision to release him into the lake, he dressed him up one last time and asked me to take some pictures. Roen has such a tender heart with animals and although he felt it was the right thing to do, it was still hard for my little turtle-loving guy.

I told Roen, Fred isn't really gone, he is just in the backyard, in the ultimate tank! This made him smile!

Loving His Turtle....

Roen loves his pet turtles. He is so good about taking the very best care of them! He loves to get out I Love Turtles and letting him stretch his little legs in the grass and breathe some fresh air.

We recently moved him from his indoor turtle tank, to a little outdoor tank. This will be easier for Roen to clean out the water and I think he probably likes getting to be outside, eating the bugs that fly into his water. We found the most perfect shady nook to set his tank, bought a special waterhose just for Roen to use and so far, he is loving being outside!

A Little Visitor...

Last week, I was piddling around the house when I spotted a soft-shelled turtle making his way up our backyard from the lake. I suspect he crawled in through our retaining wall. I immediately hollered for my turtle man, Roen. He came running and was more than happy help this big guy back into water before he dried out!

Lake living is just one little adventure after another!

A Baby Turtle...

So, Itty and Bitty, Roen's baby turtles, have died. Bitty didn't make it long after we got her and Itty died after Roen's adult turtle starting eating it's shell before we realized it was doing it. Thankfully, the same day his last baby turtle died, Gigi gave Roen another turtle she found at her house. Roen has a very big love for his pet turtles and tends to get very attached to them all. Having a new baby seemed to help him not be so upset over the loss of Itty.

Since, the boys have found another baby turtle and so now, Roen has two new little turtles to love on- he named them Red and Green... he is very original with his names!

He is always very good about feeding and loving on his turtles. A few days ago, he took the babies out of their tank and let them explore his room- he said he really felt like they needed some time to stretch their legs!

This was a very happy day for this turtle-loving boy...

Walking his Turtle...

Roen received a turtle leash from Micah and I as one of his birthday gifts. I stumbled upon this little gift just days before he mentioned he wished he had a way to take his turtle for a walk- it was pretty much the most perfect gift!

You can only imagine his excitement over finally getting to walk his turtle and so the morning after his party, he was up early and eager to take I Love Turtles Fred Davenport on his very first walk! It was the cutest thing I have ever seen!

Itty, Bitty Turtles...

Last week, Roen got two, very small, very green surprises!

A classmate who lives just up the road, ended up with two baby turtles one afternoon. Knowing that we already have a tank and a boy who loves turtles an awful lot, meant they ended up being delivered to our house. To say Roen was excited is an understatement. He couldn't believe he was getting not only one baby, but two!! I have never seen turtles this small, and I have to say, I may love them even more than Roen does!

Meet Itty & Bitty- I Love Turtle's newest tank mates...
