Remi's Room... Again....

So, after I posted all my ideas for the boy's rooms, I just couldn't go through with Remi's. Roen's feel perfect for his little personality, but Remi's just didn't quite do it. I couldn't bring myself to buy the things that I had found. So, I did what I do best... online 'window shopping'. When I shop online, I have to have that magical moment where I know I have to buy it right then...no waiting... get out the debit card and make the purchase. I didn't have that with Remi's Spiderman stuff.

Here is what I found and if this getup doesn't scream Remi, then nothing in this world would...

Boy Rooms & More Updates...

As our home is getting closer to being completed, I have been trying to figure out the boy's new rooms. Since this could very likely be our forever home, I am trying to get pieces that will last and grow with them, so we are pretty much starting new with their rooms.

Both boys previously had white furniture. I love white. If I had girls, their furniture would stay white. But I have boys and they are messy and gross sometimes. White is just not a great long term solution for us. Anyways, it has been fun picking out furniture and dreaming about their sweet 'big boy' rooms.

Roen's furniture is a rustic grey. It has already come in and I love it! I am really trying to keep the boy's room different from each other. I want each room to be specifically thought out for only them.

I have had quite a bit of trouble figuring out their bedding. Honestly, there is just not alot for boys. It is either plaid, cheesy or sports. Not that there is anything wrong with these, but I wanted boyish, not babyish and not too grown up.

Originally, I bought firefighter bedding for Remi before we sold our house. It came in around the time we moved, so it is still brand new in the box. However, I think I will now use it for Roen. It will last longer with him because he is younger. I really wanted to do something a little more grown up for Remi. Remi couldn't really decided what he wanted. If Roen was going to have emergency vehicle, then he wanted that too. If he had superhero, then he wanted Roen to have superhero. He can't stand to think that he might like Roen's better, so I guess he figures if they are the same that won't happen.

That's not happening. I want them different, so I am just getting the bedding and he will eventually get over it :) Remi really likes Spiderman and I think this is a cute solution. His bedroom furniture color is called denim- a grey/blue color, and I am just in love with it! Who knew I could have so much fun designing a room around superheroes and emergency vehicles instead of princesses and mermaids!

This is where I am so far. They will both have white beadedboard wainscoting and I am thinking really dark charcoal walls. You never really how things will turn out or how my mind will change, so the only thing for sure is Roen's furniture and bedding which are already bought!

Here are some house updates...

I finally picked out our exterior trim paint color (after 5 different colors) . I really wanted a creamy white. Not white white, but something that would look good with our white windows. I did white windows because all the trim inside will be bright white. Anyways, I think this will coordinate with the white and still be the look I envision.

Somehow, the brickers are still not finished. They have, however, finished the house and are working on the porches. After the porches, all they have left is the fireplace. Crossing my fingers they will be done this week!

All the wood floors have been laid. They will stain them at the very end. We have wood floors in every room except the bathrooms so most of the concrete is covered!

Last week, I picked out all my trim work and it has been ordered. Besides the built-ins, the trim work was the MOST IMPORTANT thing in this house to me.

New Home Purchases....

Probably, the most (and stressful) part of building a house is picking every little thing out. For me, our home will be all about the little details that no one will really notice but me. I am the homemaker.... thus, everything needs to be to my liking :)

I have a thing for historic homes. Actually, I have an obsession with historic homes. The charm, the stories, the character, these are the things that make me happy. I always say I was born in the wrong era and this is just another affirmation of that! Anyways, I have taken an extreme of time searching for the perfect pieces to fill our home. One thing I am really particular about are sinks. I know this seems so ridiculous, but think about how many times a day you use a sink. It should be something pleasant to look at!

For our master bath, I found this amazing 4ft trough style sink. I have never really been a huge advocate of dual sinks. I get that it is convenient for some couples, but Micah and I are rarely ever getting ready at the same time much less, using the sink at the same time. This way, we each have our own faucet but I only have one sink to clean!

I am a sucker for wall mounted sinks. The only drawback, is that they provide no storage. But let's face it, boys don't need storage. So I decided the boy's vanities were the perfect place to put my beloved wall mounted sinks. I fell in love with the old schoolhouse feel they have. And how cute is the soap dish on the faucet.... I can't wait to put a fresh bar of soap on there... and then tell the boys it is only for looks... maybe I'll just put some fake soap on there.... what is wrong with me!!

One of the most important things in the entire house to me, is the kitchen sink. I use it minimally 3 times a day and spend alot of time in the kitchen preparing meals and washing dishes. This, had to be perfect. The sink I finally found and purchased is a vintage 1954 piece and weighs a whopping 195 lbs. She is so lovely and came all the way from Louisianna. This mid-century, double-basin beauty has drainboards on either side and is 66 inches wide. I spotted one of these sinks years ago when Micah and I were first married... I have bookmarked it in my brain and now I will one day get to do dishes in this sink. Ya'll I'm so excited about this sink I could cry! The pictures didn't do it justice so you will just have to wait until it is installed. (I also got a mini drainboard sink for the laundry room)

The cute little fixtures for the playroom are nothing spectacular, but it ties into the whole ambience of our new home.

I am sure I will be posting more fabulous finds as this process continues. As of now, Micah has me knee-deep in spreadsheets & budgets trying to keep my champange taste in check :)

For My Darling Remi...

I cannot tell you how much I love making things for my kids! They are the perfect clients! They never rush me, never want changes, and always LOVE the final product!!

Remi got a Bob the Builder wallet for Christmas. He is always looking for things to put in it. Since he loves driving around his trucks so much, I decided to make him a driver's license. Very official with his picture and of course, it is *VALID: FOREVER*! I got a bit carried away and made him 4 different versions: firetruck, cement truck, bulldozer & dump truck. Remi is very into technicalities, so I figured having certain licenses for certain vehicles would be right up his alley! Since I spent so much time drawing all these little no-no cars, I decided to find another use for them as well!

I don' know about you, but there is nothing better than a good ole' Tervis Tumbler. I like them even more now that you can fully customize them! Remi has started drinking out of them with a lid. I guess you could say it's the next step after the sippy cup for us. Anyways....Remi totally needed a no-no car Tervis...with an orange lid, of course!!

A Favorite of Mine...

Back in my college days, I used to work at the NCCIL (the National Center for Chrildren's Illustrated Literature) in Abilene, Tx. I got to run art camps during the Summers and run the weekend art activity days. I LOVED working here. There were so many amazing exhibits featuring famous children's book illustrators. I have a passion for illustration. Especially children's book illustration. One of my deepest aspirations is to be an illustrator for children's books. All this being said, here is one of my most favorite children's books illustrators (and author). Lois Lenski began illustrating in 1920 and illustrated/ wrote over 100 books until she passed away in 1974.

Roen's Room Update...

I took down Roen's bumper pads and crib skirt a long time ago. He kept standing on the bumpers, pushing them down below the mattress. It was so frustrating to have to keep untying the bumpers and tighten them everyday. I felt like when I did that his room had no real focus. It is important to me that my kid's rooms are special places to spend time in. I decided to go with foxes because I love orange and Roen is kind of sneaky so it was fitting. Here are the little updates I added and now I feel like his room is sweet and special, just like him :)

1: Dr.Suess quote Fox Poster, yours truly

2: Marionette Bedding & Pillow

3: Fabric Fox Storage Bin , filled with all his beloved stuffed animals

4: Fox & Deer Prints {hangers not included, but I bought some on Esty}
