Regional Qualifier, Lake Kiowa...

Even though Remi didn't qualify for regionals, he got to go and play alongside Bennett. We host this 'pre-regionals' invitational tournament, and Coach felt very strongly about Remi playing for the experience. Remi didn't play very well (shot a 91), but it was his very last tournament to play with Bennett, and for that, it was special nonetheless.

District R2...

Round 2 of district golf was in Decatur, and we took the boys for a practice round the Saturday before break ended.

I think overall, most golfers struggled on this day. The weather wasn't terrible, but I suppose it could have been nerves. Remi never could find his momentum and ended the day with a 90. Our team fell short behind Paradise and Boyd, coming in 3rd. We were all a little disappointed, but Bennett played well enough to move on to regionals individually! I think our excitement for him outshined our team not moving on.

Going into hole 18 Bennett knew he has played well enough that even if he maxed out, he had earned his spot to regionals! Parents, coaches and teammates all stood around watching the top 5 golfers finish their rounds, a dozen carts following along... you could just feel the adrenaline buzzing in the air! As Bennett made his very last putt, of his last ever district tournament, he walked off the green, straight to Remi, and gave him a hug. It brought tears to my eyes and I couldn't help but think, that that will be one of my most favorite moments of Remi's freshman year! The friendship between these two boys is about as genuine and real as it gets!

Remi ended up tying for 11th out of 44 golfers in district. The top scoring freshman from any school... well done, Remi!!!!

Coach told Micah a few weeks ago, that in all his years of coaching, he has NEVER had a freshman as his 2 bag. Remi held that spot all season long and I am so proud of everything about this season for him. He scored his all-time best with an 80 in Bridgeport, he barely broke 100 with a 97 in Gainesville, he handled district nerves shooting an 84 at Winstar, he had a player from Paradise try to recruit him, he battled insane weather in Bowie scoring the top for Callisburg and then, there was everything in between. There were smiles, there was frustration, there was the feeling of letting his team down and then there was the feeling of leading the pack! And in all of that, there was so much growth!!

This year is gonna be hard to say good-bye to and even harder to top!

District R1...

It feels like this is what golf season has been leading up to all year long! With us having such a young team, we knew every single golfer on the team would have to play their absolute best golf (both days) in order to have a chance of making it out of district.

We made tee times on Tuesday and Wednesday and I think it helped Remi be much more relaxed going into the tournament on Thursday. We also let Roen join the practice rounds because next year, he will be playing alongside his big brother! We were so happy Anne got to watch the first round and she proved to Remi's good luck charm!

Remi played hard, and ended the day with an 84! Bennett also played great (our top player) and we ended round one just 10 strokes behind 2nd place. With only the top two teams moving on to regionals, we knew these boys had to bring the heat in Decatur the following Tuesday!

This momma was beyond proud!

High School Golf, Gainesville

Remi let his mental game get the best of him, and this was not a pretty day on the course. He had only a few pars and ended the day with 6 triples.

He has come so far with his mental game and the last thing we want to see is him get stuck in a mental rut where he overthinks and questions every shot. This is by far, the most tricky part of golf... or at least for Remi it is.

District is just days away and we have spent Spring Break practicing non-stop! Here's to his very first District Golf Tournament and hoping he can play his best game!

High School Golf, Bowie...

Y'all, it was soooo cold!! I was snugged down in my stadium sack like a cocooned caterpillar! And those boys had to play in it all day! PLUS, it was like tornado winds! It was so bad, that out of the 12 teams there, only 4 finished the full 18 holes!

Callisburg did not place, but Remi was top from Callisburg and considering the weather, I thought an 85 was downright fabulous!

Spring High School Golf...

Remi officially kicked off spring golf at the Twisted 54 golf tournament.

They headed down to Longveiw after school on Thursday, played 36 holes back-to-back on Friday, and they finished off with 18 more on Saturday! The Tempest course was most definitely the hardest of the two and these boys were worn out! But Remi loved this little overnight trip and we all had so much fun!

R1 Wood Hollow: 83

R2 Wood Hollow: 90

R3 Tempest Course: 97

I am already looking forward to this tournament again next year!

High School Golf Tournament, Decatur...

And just like that, fall golf has come to an end! The Wildcats won all three of their tournaments and had so much fun together! Remi placed at two of three tournaments and though he didn’t end the season with his best round, he did end the day with 3rd place individually (shooting a 91).

Lots of work to put in to get ready for district this spring, but on the way home from the tournament, I could hear Remi and Bennett talking about their goals and where they needed to be come spring!

Way to go, Remi, now go put in the work!

High School Golf Tournament, Bonham...

This was Remi's second tournament of his fall season. He didn't play anywhere close to how did in his first tournament and was pretty frustrated and disappointed with his 91. But his team was able to pull in first place, so he at least played well enough to help his team.

Even though he didn't play great, Remi was all smiles when he found Bennett waiting for him on the last hole! To see the way Remi laughs and smiles when he is with his team, confident and sure of himself... well, golf has become what no other sport has been for him and that has my mama heart thankful and full!
