Last Middle School Dance...

At the very beginning of May, Roen had his very last middle school dance. He ended up asking one of his close girl friends to be his date. A small group of them met up for dinner before, and ended up calling for us to pick them up before it was over. I think by the 8th grade, the glamour of these dances has officially worn off!

A sweet little girl in their grade hosted a get together at her house afterward, and after a lot of thought, I decided I'd let Roen go. Roen's grade has a reputation for being a rowdy bunch, and I was hesitant because, honestly, I could picture all sorts of scenarios. I talked with him in depth, went over how to handle any and everything I could think of, and decided to let him go.

Sadly, as I feared, alcohol ended up at the party. Roen and his friends did a good job of separating themselves, but it is still heartbreaking that 13 and 14 year olds are having to navigate these situations at all. It did however, create the opportunity for some good conversation! They ended the night with a sleepover and woke up to a home cooked breakfast!

All of this just further opens my eyes to how fast the boys are growing up! That whole saying about the days being long... well, the days aren't even long anymore, it is all flying by! And those second babies like to live life a little differently than those first child perfectionists! Roen is our ball of energy, zooming through life with as much fun as he can gather.... and friends, always with buddies by his side!

Roen will most certainly be one of our greatest adventures!

Middle School Dance...

The boys just had their 7th and 8th grade Middle School Dance... Hawaiin style! It feels like it was just yesterday that Remi was attending his very first dance and now he has closed that chapter! I always love this evening, seeing the boys dressed up with their friends.

The boys went separte ways again this year and like last year, I depended on friends to help get them in different directions! I ended up staying with Remi this year and let Tiz haul Roen around. These 8th grade boys have done a lot of growing up since they were baby 6th graders and Roen's crew... well, they are all still a bunch of silly goobers!

Neither boy asked a single girl to dance, and Remi ended up calling me about 20 minutes before it ended saying he was bored, but hey, they went and I have photo documentation to prove it!

And just because I love throwback memories, at the end you will find all Remi's middle school dance group photos from years past!

Middle School Dance...

For the first time the boys got to do to the junior high dance together! While one danced the night away with his sweet little girlfriend, the other didn't have any interest in the dance part of the night at all. Thankfully, neither seemed to mind that I crashed their party by being chaperone!

While the 7th graders met up at IHOP, the moms of the 6th graders got their little group together at Chilis!

I was seriously blown away at Roen dancing every single song with Layla! On the way to dinner, he said at most he would dance 30 seconds of one song... famous last words, haha! He told me later that he knew she loved to dance, so he kept asking her!

And when I say Remi had no interest in dancing, I mean, at one point I looked up from serving pizza and see that he has spent all his money on glow bracelets and is building illusion tricks out of them to show all his friends... I seriously cannot make this stuff up, lol!

Two totally different boys, but such a fun night for them both!

6th Grade Luaiu...

Several weeks before school let out, Remi had his last dance of the 6th Grade. It being a luau, made it much more relaxed and much more fun!

We met up with moms and a mix of friends to eat a bit of Mexican food before the dance. This time I was not a chaperone, so I just dropped him off and said "Have fun!" Remi still was not into the idea of bringing a girl and actually told one of his girl friends "no" when she asked him to take her. He is definitely one of the last in his group to jump on the girl bandwagon, but then again, Remi has always been my child who does things only when he is good and ready!

His First School Dance...

A few Fridays ago, Remi had his very first middle school dance. As excited as I was, he was equally as unexcited. In fact, he really didn't want to go at all. I told him I was a chaperone, so he didn't have a choice. He wasn't excited about dressing up, definitely wasn't asking a date and no way, no how would dancing with a girl happen.

Bless his stubborn little heart! There is really no swaying this boy and he had already made up his mind, this was not something he wanted to do. In fact, about 15 minutes before we were supposed to leave to meet up with friends for a bite to eat and pictures, he informed me that he just wasn't going!

By the time we got there, and I got settled serving pizza at the food table, I looked over to the dance floor and my mouth literally hit the floor. That little toot was out there with all his buddies, shaking his booty to none other than Low by Flo Rida. In fact, that boy danced his heart out and only left the dance floor when couples songs came on. He had an absolute blast and my dance loving heart was stealing glances every chance I got!
