The Abstinence Teacher...

Since having Remi, I have not been able to read near as much as I used to (actually not at all). Now that I am getting the hang of this 'mom' stuff, I am trying to start reading a little everyday. Here is the book I just finished.

This book was far from what I expected. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I don't really see myself reading it again, but there were parts that I found really interesting. First off, this book isn't for everyone. There are some REALLY graphic parts, bad language and lots of religious context that could be offensive.

Basically, this story follows a born-again Christian named Tim. He completely turns his life around from being a drunk and drug addict. He becomes a part of what some would consider an extreme religious group. As he devotes his life to the Lord, you find him start questioning his decision to leave his past behind while falling into many temptations.

At times, I caught myself wanting Tim to leave his extreme lifestyle and give into his temptations. Which really made me wonder if that is what the author wanted...which made me wonder if I really liked the book at all. In the end, I was able to appreciate the different aspects of Christianity this book brought to the table but felt like it kind of 'tricked' me into wanting the characters live a life sin.

Anyways, if you decide to read, I'd love to know what you think!

Interesting..... I hate that though- when I read a book and I am rooting for the character to do something sinful.... I feel like I've sinned in my own heart for wanting something wrong for a made-up character. I'm not sure I'll read this one, but thanks for letting me know what it's about. I always appreciate your opinion on books!
