House of Sand and Fog
I can't remember exactly why I bought this book, but I really, really liked it. This novel is different than any I have ever read- it was really pretty dark. I had no expectations of this book, so I guess I was surprised when I couldn't put it down.
There are three main characters. As you read about the different lives of each character, the book comes to a climax where all three intertwine in suspense. Never knowing exactly where this book was headed, I was completely shocked by the ending. This is a story of a young woman who finds herself completely lost when her husband leaves her and then her house if wrongfully taken from her. The young deputy who delivers the news that her house if being taken by the city ends up being the only thing to keep her hanging on. However, when an Iranian family buys her house in an auction, the battle begins. The deputy is desperate to get the house back to it's rightful owner while the Iranian father is desperate to get his family the break they finally deserve. This is a story of desperation, passion, loss and love at it's strongest points. Loved it!
* there is lots of language and pretty graphic terminology
