Peeing In Bottles & Police...

It never fails, that the minute we get in the car, one of the boys (usually Roen) has to go pee. Remi is old enough now to wear he can hold it and usually goes before we get in the car. However, when Roen says he has to go to pee-pee, you really only have a matter of minutes before he has an accident.

At home, this is not an issue. In the car however, it can be kind of tricky. I try to avoid dragging the kids through germ infested convenient store bathrooms at all costs and sometimes peeing on the side of the road isn't an option either (driving through cities).

I travel to and from San Angelo pretty regularly by myself and once a week we drive a total of two hours to get to and from swim lessons. We are on the road for long periods of time A LOT. All this to say, I always keep an empty water bottle/ plastic cup in the car in the event that I have to pull over for Roen to go pee. It is really pretty funny, but It saves a lot of time and at least cleaner than him having to take off his pants, underwear and shoes (he won't stand yet and insists on undressing), and sitting on a nasty convenient store toilet. He always puts his hands on the toilet lid and stands on the floor with his socks on.... just gross!

Earlier this week, we were headed to swim lessons. Roen announces he has to go pee while we are driving through a small country town. I spot a road off the highway and pull off on the grassy shoulder. First Remi goes. Roen has his pants down and is all ready to relieve himself when I notice a police car with it's lights on behind me.

REALLY!? I just want to get to swim lessons on time, avoid my two-year old peeing all in his car seat and now I have to deal with this!

I quickly pull his pants up and roll down my window. As he approaches, I immediately apologize (for what, I don't know--I'm sure I sounded pretty guilty) and "my two-year old had to go pee, he is potty training and couldn't hold it, so I was letting him go pee in a bottle" spurts from my mouth! I couldn't have sounded more redneck if I had tried! He was very polite and just said he was checking on me since I was pulled over.

He took my licensee and said he need to make a note that he talked to me-- I would love to know what he said in his 'note'-- brought it back and told me to make sure I buckled up my kids...

Glad it's not a crime to let you kids pee in water bottles and glad that policeman not only thought I was backwoods country enough to let my kids pee in bottles but also thought I might need reminding to buckle my kids up!

OMG!!! This is the funniest story ever. Only you sweet Lauri. I would loved to have been a fly on the window in your car and the patrol car. Thanks for the laugh. Keep those bottles handy :)
