Just Finished Reading...

Well, I just finished up so pretty little books. I say pretty because are all four of these books are not only children's books, but they are all illustrated chapter books. I would be lying if I said one of the main reasons I chose these four was not because of their covers!

First, I found this brand-new edition of Alice in Wonderland. The first reason this book caught my eye was because the cover and inside illustrations were done by the same artist who illustrated the covers of one of my all time favorite book sets that I recently read (click here). The other reason I picked up this book is becauase I have never read Alice in Wonderland. Of course, I have seen several of the movie versions, but who hasn't!? This book is really big- like text book big- and the pages are thick and beautiful. Throughout the book are the most adorable illustrations that follow the story. I didn't love this book, but the illustrations... I loved!!

The next book, and my favorite of the group, was The Doldrums. It was a really sweet little story about three youngsters and the adventures of their imaginations. I finished this book wishing there was more to the story, but there is, because there will be a sequel!! There are the MOST BEAUTIFUL illustrations throughout this book as well. Even if I didn't end up likeing this book, I would have bought it for the illustrations alone!

The next two books, The Marvels & The Invention of Hugo Cabret, are by the same author. The illustrations in this book are all done by pencil. The unique thing about these books are that at least half of the book is told in illustrations. I have never read a book told in this way... my little artist heart loved this! The stories were ok, not amazing, but my favorite of the two was Hugo. I had several personal issues with the story line in The Marvels, but I won't delve into that.

After reading so many children's books, my mind needed something a bit more mature.... so, I found an amazing series that I can't wait to share... I am already on book two (of 5) and I can't seem to get anything done because I can't put these books down!!

Those are pretty books. Not sure I could have hung with all four....maybe not even one. So I have to ask...are you reading EL James' Grey? I think it will be interesting to read this series from Christian's point of view. Can't wait to see what you are up to!!!
