Friday Night Flag Raising...

Friday night, was a very special night. Remi got to participate in his very first flag raising as a Cub Scout at the football game.

We took the boys out to dinner and then as we headed to the game Remi said "Mom, I'm gonna look so sharp." As he walked into the game and saw not only his buddies in their uniforms, but the older scouts as well, he got so excited. Since Remi's group is the youngest, they were last in line, following the lead of the older scouts down to the flag pole.

Each boy was arranged in certain spots, arms length apart and of course, with shirts tucked in. As they announced for everyone to bow their heads, each boy respectfully took off their hats and bowed their heads as the Lord's Prayer was said over the loud speaker.... there was just something about this moment that took my breath. I'm not sure if it was the love for my itty, bitty community that stills puts God first, or the way Remi stood so proud in his uniform or the way each boy put their sweet little hands up to their heads, saluting the flag while singing for their country... but I think it may have been witnessing these sweet little boys being a part of something bigger than themselves...

We ended up staying until almost half-time (Remi's request) and let the boys run around with all their friends. Roen was over the moon excited that when we made our second touch-down, he got a football that the cheerleaders were throwing.

For me, there is nothing better than small-town football...

Friday Night Lights...nothing better, but this post was incredible. Remi is standing so tall and proud. Handsome young boys learning some very valuable life lessons and skills. And Roen catching a football is pretty awesome too!
