Field Day...

Last Monday, the boys had Field Day at school. This is a day I look forward to every year! I love getting to watch the boys with all of their buddies and classmates!

The festivities start with an opening ceremony where each grade marches in with their banner. Parents are searching for their kids, taking pictures, the students are waving at their parents in the crowd, music is playing- it feels so grand and exciting!

The day is full of fun water activities, sack races, jump roping and the favorite, tug-o-war! Every grade at the school is made up of 2 classes and each class competes against each other in tug-o-war.

The feeling in the gym when this is going on is just amazing! K-6 plus all the parents and teachers fill the bleachers and crowd around, everyone chanting for the team they want to win. The kids stand up, rooting and cheering, the kids competing pulling with all their might for the privilege to say they won- the feeling of something so trivial feeling so big and important filling the air. It is so intense, so moving it almost brings tears to my eyes every year. I think maybe it is being in a place so small-town America, still so pure and sectioned from everywhere else that in this crazy big world, something as simple as tug-o-war can still be a big deal. And let me tell you, to these kids- IT IS!!

Both boys won this year and for them, that made Field Day a success!

Now that's a great way to start a Monday! The boys look so cute standing there with their brown bag lunches ready for battle. The picture of Remi in the sack race is hysterical. He has really come around to smiling for the camera. Roen always has a smile so nothing to worry about there. Next year you need to video the tug of war...I bet it could win Funniest Home Videos. Can't believe this school year has come to an end. I know you were super busy this year, so thank you very much for keeping the blog up and running! It's a highlight of my day. Love & hugs to you all!
