To Each Their Own...

We were out at the lake the other afternoon and the boys had the last bit of daylight to do as their little hearts desired.

Isn't it interesting to see what our children do in free play. It says so much about who they are and what invokes their spirit of adventure.

The boys had just gotten new baseball gloves and Roen could hardly wait to start throwing the ball. He immediately asked Micah to play catch. This might be Micah's version of heaven! Playing ball is something Roen truly loves. He is my little athlete who loves being with people and loves competition. He practices and takes criticism well which makes him a coachable little guy who is always trying to be better.

Remi on the other hand, ran down to the dock, loaded up his kayak and set out on the water craving a little independence. He loves loading up with snacks, the dog, his fishing pole and paddle to row the hours away, peaceful in his thoughts and immersed in nature. I think being out on the water is one of Remi's happiest places. He has never been one to need to the company of others and continues to be my independent, nature-loving child.

As I sat on the back porch watching my boys, each in their own happy places, I realized I too, was in my happy place. My days of taking care of little boys is quickly transforming into these moments where I can just sit back, hot tea and book in hand, and enjoy watching who these boys are becoming. Each so very different in every aspect, but both fulfilling my days in the greatest of ways.
