Grand Cayman Day One...

I am very methodical about planning our trip itineraries. I like to have each day planned so that we are sure to get everything in that we want. I spend lots of time researching restaurants, resorts and activities. But, the one thing I like on every itinerary are beach days where we have nothing but dinner reservations planned for the day. We eat lunch on the beach, we collect seashells, we play in the sand and literally have a day living up every minute of just being beach bums.

This trip, our first day was dedicated to just being on the beach.

And let me tell you, being on the beaches of the Cayman Islands is nothing short of amazing. The sand is clean and soft- almost like walking through powered sugar, the waters are the most perfect shade of mermaid turquoise and so crystal clear. Out of all the beaches we have visited, this is one of my favorites!

The kids woke up early, made themselves some coffee (Remi loves coffee) and did a bit of early morning crab hunting in their underwear. It was pretty cute to see them all out there scheming on ways to catch the sand crabs. We were supposed to have family pictures taken that morning but after getting everyone ready and to the beach, our session got rained out. So we headed over to Seven, a restaurant at our resort that has a pretty yummy breakfast buffet. Last trip, we ate here every morning and ended up doing the same this trip. They have an amazing little patio that over looks the pool, but the very best part is all the iguanas running around. The boys had the best time scarfing down breakfast as fast as they could and then setting out to hunt lizards while the adults finished eating!

After breakfast, we got into our beach gear and spent the entire day exploring the beach.

Traveling with Remi is like traveling with Dr. Dolittle. If there is a critter to be found he will find it, and if he finds it, he will catch it. He has been a lover of all things critter for as long as I can remember.

On this particular day, he was scouring the sea floor for rocks and creating a giant rock fish home for a little school of ocean minnows he spotted. While doing this, he popped his head up and hollered that he had found a baby octopus! He was nestled inside a rock and could barely be seen- I couldn't believe it! Remi carefully carried him from the water to shore and put him in a bucket so we could all see.

His goal for this trip was to catch a living creature and he checked that off the morning of day one! He was super excited! This was also the day that the boys spotted a little stingray swimming through the shallow waters piggybacking a little fish. The boys followed this little stingray clear across the beach!

While the kids snorkeled, explored and played in the sand, I did a bit of relaxing myself and happened upon this yummy drink! If you ever visit Grand Cayman, you must order up a Lazy Day Lemonade, put your feet in the sand and soak up the sun!

The kids finished their day with a visit to the pool and some poolside cotton candy!

That evening, we had dinner reservations at what ended up being my favorite restaurant of the trip, The Wharf. We sat out on the patio, that was only feet from the water and enjoyed dinner under the tropical sunset. Out on the pier, the water is filled with giant Tarpon that the guests got to help feed at dinner time- you can only image what fun the boys thought this was!

On our way out the door, Remi caught a little crab. He was pretty proud of that little crab, but I made him let it go before we got in the taxi.

The kids were pretty tired from their long day in the sun, so we put them straight to bed, where I feel certain they dreamed of salt water, tarpon and baby octopuses!

The early morning beach adventure of the kids was priceless! They are all so cute. If you hadn’t spilled the beans I probably wouldn’t have known they were in their underwear 😂. What a fun filled day. I can’t believe Remi found a baby octopus 🐙. That had to be like finding a needle in a haystack. Keep the pictures coming....I’m loving everything about this trip! 😘😎
