A Summer Mishap...

The boys went home from Field Day with some of their best buddies. They swam, they fished and they had the very best time soaking up the sun! I'm so glad they had this time, because the very next day, on their first official day of summer, Roen took a tumble on his OneWheel! 

About 15 minutes before we were headed to drop the boys off with a sitter for the evening (it was also our 16 year anniversary) Roen hopped on his OneWheel to ride around the neighborhood. I have kicked myself many times over for not telling him that there wasn't time and to just stay home. Several minutes later, I saw him walking up the driveway and knew immediately that he was hurt. Once I got out to him, he was crying, saying he thought he broke his shoulder. Anniversary plans went out the window, and we instead spent the evening at the ER confirming that he did, in fact, break his collar bone. 

He was in a lot of pain those first few days and we were all a little heartbroken that his summer would now be lots of taking it easy and sitting out of all his favorite things. At the top of the list, he will miss a good majority of his golf tournaments, but he also is missing out on bike riding, playing basketball and just being his busy, social little self. 

We are now almost 3 weeks in and have been to a specialist twice. We are thankful that he will not have to have surgery and a full recovery is expected. Roen goes back to the doctor on the 22nd, and if all looks good, he will get to start swinging his clubs again! 

Overall, his spirits have been great and he is making the best of his situation! He had quite a few friends that came by the day after to keep him company and as his pain has eased, he is able to get around one armed pretty well!
