For the boys, this is the daddy of them all. This tournament, right here, in their own backyard, is the one it will always come down to. Last year, Remi pulled a 2nd place medal and Roen won his division. Going in, they knew it would be tough competition and they both wanted the gold.
Roen moved up in the age bracket, so this put them playing against each other. As a mom, watching your boys compete against each other is both nerve-racking and a blast! I was really hoping they would take 1st and 2nd!
We requested that both be boys be put in the same group, so Micah got to caddy for them both on Saturday. Sunday tee times were based on rankings, so we lined up Coach Casey to caddy for Ro and Remi got to be in his comfort zone with Micah. They actually ended up being grouped together on that second day, but you never know how that will turn out. As we finished our last holes on Sunday, I bet there were 15 carts following along, watching in anticipation- even Roen's sweet girlfriend followed along watching. Golf may be quiet and slow, but goodness, it is intense!
After day one, Remi was tied for 1st, with Roen right behind. Day two brought nerves and it often comes down to the mental game in golf. This is where Roen gets Remi almost every single time. Remi let his nerves get the best of him, and Roen came in like a little bulldog ready to battle. They fought hard, so, so hard, but in the end, neither of them came away with 1st. The Davenport Brothers took 2nd (Roen) and 3rd (Remi) this year, but rest assured, they will be back next year, to duke it out again. {*Both boys came away with the Longest Drive award}
After it was all said and done, I look back at this weekend, and there is one thing that makes me the most proud.
It's that being surround by peers, by a community that you knows well, it would be real easy for Remi and Roen to get competitively ugly and snarky with each other. You know what? Not one single time did an ugly word come out of their mouths to or about one another. It amazes me that two brothers, so close in age, so competitive and so fiercely bold with each other, can walk out on the course and respect each other's game the way that they do. Many times when they play against each other, Roen comes out on top. I truly admire Remi for his ability to be proud of his brother and Roen's humility is one of my favorite parts about him. Theses boys tear into each other daily, but when they are out on that course, I get to witness a side of them, that is truly one of their best!

Where’s the “love” button when you need it??? This is one of my favorite posts! I am so glad the boys are growing to love the game of golf. As I’ve said many times, I wanted to be good at it, but just never could keep my head down. We all know the drive is critical 🤪. Congratulations to those two for getting the longest drive award. Super proud of them and their accomplishments this summer. Next up will be them getting Pops out on the course. Thanks so much for sharing! Keep hitting those long drives and short putts Davenport bros!! Love y’all bunches 😘
