Oh, how I love my little mathletes!
This is Remi's 2nd year and Roen's 1st year in TMSCA- a competitive math and science organization. Because of basketball, Remi never got the chance to compete last year, but really enjoyed the class. This year however, basketball didn't interfere and so they both got to go to meets!
They had a practice meet early on and then there were several more meets where they got the chance to qualify for state. I am so proud of these boys, not only did they BOTH qualify, but they both qualified in two events. There were only 14 total, 6th-8th graders who qualified from our school and only a handful had more than one event. All this to say, it was quite an accomplishment for both of them!
As different as they are, they are so much alike at times, it's crazy. Out of 4 events, these little toots both went to state in NumberSense and Mathematics. NumberSense is math done in you head and Mathematics is math worked out on paper. I very often have people flabbergasted that Remi doesn't do the science event. This is one of those cases where his dyslexia and the lack of understanding from non-dyslexics collide. It is so much reading and text that he just can't do it. In a perfect world, it would be able to be read to him and I have no doubt, it would be his very best event, but we don't live in perfect world and this momma is only capable of fighting so many battles, so for now, we let it go and soar with what we have.
Neither boy placed over all, but Remi was one of the top 4 NumberSense scores from Callisburg Middle School. They both balked at their scores, saying they were pretty terrible, but I secretly don't give a hoot about their scores, I'm just proud of them. Proud of the passion they have for extracurricular academics, proud of their efforts and proud that they got their daddy's math brain and not mine!
They got to have the fun journery of busing to San Antonio with their TMSCA buddies and spent the night in a hotel in a room with friends. I met them up there so that I could take them home after their events and they could avoid the very long drive home on a bus! It also meant I got some time with Cici and Kim, so it was fun for us all!

It was a whirlwind, but oh so much fun! Getting to see you all was the highlight of the weekend. I’m super proud of Remi and Roen. They have both accomplished so much academically, as well as athletically. Way to go boys! I’m not sure they will want me as their Uber Driver ever again, but hey when you’re running late and you sit and sit at a red light with no traffic…you just have to run it!! 😬😂😂. Come back anytime!! We love y’all! 😘
