High School is funny in the way that friendships seem to scatter from middle school days. The football boys go one way, the party kids tend to form their own little circle, I suppose the academic kids all have their own thing, and the ag kiddos definitely have their own vibe going. Remi doesn't really fit into any one single category... he has always been that way. Never could shove my little round peg into that square hole. He is a golfer, but isn't real close with any of the golfers besides Roen's freshman friends. He loves welding, but that group is a little rough for him, he has zero jock tendencies, and though his biggest passion is his drive for academic success, he really doesn't click with that group either. Bottom line, he is not a real social guy and is pretty particular about who he spends time with, opting to run solo over most company.
Freshman year felt like a start over with friends for Remi. He didn't necessarily lose his former friendships, but high school just has a way of parting the pack naturally. He ended up becoming close friends with a senior on the golf team. I did what moms do best and at the end of his freshman year, I started worrying about what he would do come August when Bennett moved away for college. But I also prayed. I prayed hard for the right friendships to come into Remi's life this year. Friends that would support his faith, friends that valued the things he is most passionate about, and friends that would help him be his best self. And then, I sat back watched God do his work!
Little did I know, what God had in store for our boy, was not a group of boys!
Lo and behold, this summer, God brought the sweetest girl right into Remi's life! They are so similar, there is no doubt God handpicked this little gal specifically for Remi. Her family goes to the church Micah grew up in, she is a math and science whiz, top of her class, wants to be an engineer one day and even has ACU at the top of her college prospects. They may not last forever, maybe not even through this school year, but for right now, Remi has found the friendship I prayed so hard for! They spend a lot of time at church together, a lot of time with her family, and a lot of time going on dates with Boo and Ava. Her family has welcomed Remi into their home, loving him and giving him a confidence I have never seen.
When I asked God for a friend, he brought Remi an entire family. People I will gladly share him with, a home full of christian love and a family that has quickly become one of our biggest blessings.
Of all the things I have gotten to watch Remi do, watching him love little Elle just might be my favorite!
And I call her 'little' because she is a tiny, little toot, and just as precious as can be!
