Turkey Shoot 2016...

On Sunday, the Cub Scouts in our tiny neighboring town hosted the annual Turkey Shoot. This is an event where the Cub Scouts compete in archery, slingshots and bb gun shooting. They also got to build paddle boats, watch a pig get field dressed (by the game warden) and go through an obstacle course. It ended up lasting all day, but Remi enjoyed himself to the fullest. These type of activities are the things that come very natural to Remi and it was so fun seeing him in his element.

At the paddle boat station, Remi sat down, got to work and was the first one finished- with no help. It was very obvious that he has been playing with tools for as long as I can remember!

And the field dressing of the pig was pretty funny. About half the kids were grossed out- I even saw one boy who got sick- and then there were the boys who thought it was awesome. Remi was one of the boys who thought it was pure greatness. Remi was born to be outside doing things of this nature. In fact, he came and got my camera, went up as close as he was allowed and took pictures of the entire process. I'm not sure if the heart or intestines were most fascinating to him, but he was enthralled by it all!

Roen got to build a paddle boat and shoot the bb gun as well... they are always so go about letting him join the fun. I think he is counting down the days until he is old enough to be a Scout. And to top it all off, Pops came to watch! It was an awesome day...

until Remi won and pocket knife and we had to explain to him that he couldn't have it because he was still too young. The fit that came after that was almost bad enough to ruin the whole day, lol!

Remi was asked to help the older Scouts with the flag ceremony. This made him very nervous. Remi is a boy who likes to know exactly what's going on and exactly what is expected of him. Out of the blue requests, like participating in the flag ceremony in front of everyone and having no idea what to do, make him turn into a very serious little boy...

This is my favorite picture of the day. The minute the game warden started gutting the pig, the smell was not pleasant... as you can see...
