Saint Lucia Day 3...

On our third day, we set sail on the beautiful waters surrounding the island and spent the entire day letting the ocean breeze blow our hair, exploring the blue waters and sipping rum punch. This day was absolutely amazing and will be almost impossible to top. We started the day by taking a 3 hour sail over to the Pitons- two volcanic mountains that rise mightily out of the sea, covered in lush rainforest vegetation. The minute they come into view, you know without a doubt they are the Pitons. You cannot miss them and you cannot deny their majestic beauty!

We anchored into Sugar Bay, beaches covered in imported white sands, waters so deep, seeing the bottom is impossible and a shore that looks straight out of a movie. While in Sugar Bay, we threw on our snorkeling gear and plunged into the water. When we looked down, we could only see blue- that is when our captain told us it was 120 feet deep where we were. Only when we got feet from the shore could we finally see the bottom. Snorkeling around this island was unlike anything I have ever seen. The ocean floor is covered in giant volcanic rocks, with all kinds of creatures nestled in their crevices. We saw splats of Fire Coral covering the rocks, spiny little Sea Urchins dotting all the spaces in between and reef that looked like brains and octopus tentacles.

After we snorkeled, we swam up on shore where we visited a little beach hut where two sweet little locals were selling wood carvings of the Pitons, friendship bracelets and stone turtles.

For lunch, our captain and mate fixed us up a fancy spread of Mahi Mahi, steak, caesar salad, white wine, shrimp salad, tomato salad, rice and pasta salad. It was all set with place settings, where we ate with the Pitons as our backdrop, rocking over the waves and knowing that this was a day we would never forget!

From here, we loaded up and headed over to another snorkeling spot right in front of a placed called The Tea House. We made this little stop smack dab in between rain showers. We saw several Lion Fish, a spotted eel and more fire coral and sea urchins. These are creatures I have never seen in the wild, and was so very excited to get to come back and tell the boys all about!

On our sail back to the marina, we stopped at the famous Marigot Bay. The is a beautiful bay filled with palm trees, colorful restaurants right off the shore and houses built into the mountains. The best way to describe it is magical. This bay is famous for several movies that have been filmed here, including Dr Dolittle.

Our day on the water was like nothing I have ever experienced. If I make it back to St Lucia, I would do this exact same excursion.

That evening, we came back to a sweet little love note on our bed and then finished out the day at good 'old Herbies Piano Bar!
