The Texas Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament has been something we have been preparing for since last summer. It has been on the calendar for months and as excited as we were for it to come, we were also so heartbroken that Roen would have to sit this tournament out due to his collar bone being broken.
This is by far the hardest, longest and toughest tournament either boy has ever played. This tournament is steeped in history with famous PGA players spending their childhoods playing this event. It is held in Wichita Falls and is three long, hot days of playing 18 holes each day. This was only Remi's second time to ever play an 18 hole tournament and his nerves were high.
Day one was by far his best day. In fact, his first 9 holes were his best of the entire 54 holes he played. I am thinking his nerves served him well! Day 2 brought on a long, hard round that we were proud to survive. Though he played some really good golf, he blew his entire round on hole 15. Day 3, found us all ready to finish strong, but by the time we hit the back 9, exhaustion set in and we were all ready to be done.
Remi had a little over 20 players in his age bracket and he placed right in the middle of the pack. Going in, we knew placing in this event wasn't realistic, but we also knew this was an experience that he would learn so much from. Remi played some really good golf, pushed through some really tough ruts and did such a good job of keeping his head up through the heat, exhaustion and kiddos that were shooting under par everyday. There is nothing about this sport that is easy and the only way to get better is to play, practice and perfect that mental game.
I am so proud of Remi for showing up, for playing hard and coming away with a recognition on where he needs to grow. We will be back next year and hopefully have a lot more practice under our belt!
Because Roen couldn't play and it was going to be temps over 100 degrees, we let him have some fun in San Angelo with cousins, Anne and helping with VBS!

Yay….you’re back! This just made my day ♥️ I can’t begin to put into words what all ran through my mind as I read this post and looked at all the pictures. Absolutely incredible! I love everything about it. Congratulations to Remi! So sorry that Roen was injured and had to miss this tournament, but the bonus was I got to see him and Benny in Angelo. The boys are growing up so fast. I don’t think you really want an “essay” comment on this, so I’ll say looking at Micah with Remi made my heart smile!! Thanks so much for sharing this tournament. Tell Remi keep up the good work! Love y’all bunches!!
