Years ago, we bought a quaint yellow house right on the water. What began as a weekend lake house, quickly turned into our full time home. When we bought this house we always had the intention of tearing it down and building our dream home once the boys graduated high school. However, once this became home, we decided to build as soon as we could, so that we could make memories while the boys still lived at home.
Some of our very early plans are dated back to 2017- this house has been in the works for years! Covid set us back significantly. Pre-covid, we had moved out and into a rent house, with plans to tear down and get construction going. As the world fell apart, we found ourselves moving back in to the house in a year's time. Recovering post covid, left us needing to get business back on its feet and making significant house plan changes. The plans we had initially finalized were for two elementary boys and now, we knew we would be moving in with at least one in high school- that house looked a bit different! So after going back to the drawing board, we finalized plans (again), ended up going with another builder and actually broke ground this fall!
We moved out of our tear-down and into a house down the road in August 2022. We broke ground on October 26th 2022. We tore down, which had me in all sorts of emotions I wasn't expecting, got foundation poured in March, started framing and just finished up the roof decking. It has been so fun getting to drive by everyday and check progress. We have never given this project a hard deadline, but Micah and I both anticipate move-in happening at the end of next summer- so, lets say August-September 2024.
I have yet to post any updates so far, because it's way more fun to see the progress when you have lots of progress to show! I have taken several pictures of the boys in their future bedrooms just for fun! They have loved getting to see their spaces take shape!
So, here is my very first post on building our dream! Next week, shingles are going on the roof!

The dream is coming to fruition and it’s beyond exciting! And that’s just how I feel, so I can only imagine the excitement you’re feeling. I must admit it’s hard to see the quaint yellow house be demolished, but it’s always going to be in my many memories of spending time there. The builder is really making progress and the new home is taking shape! Thanks for getting this on the blog and I will always look forward to seeing updates. The boys are very happy with their new rooms! Talk about a floor with a view…they’ll have it. As fast as time passes, you’ll be packing and moving in no time! Love y’all! 😘
